Every beginning has its magic

Italy is in transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance - a time full of upheavals, discoveries and new ideas. While old feudal structures slowly crumble, the city states of Florence, Venice and Milan flourish economically and become centers of trade, art and science. Donatello creates his famous bronze statue of David and Brunelleschi completes the dome of Florence Cathedral in a few years. The Medici revolutionize the banking system, Francesco Sforza - the future Duke of Milan - begins his rise, while the Milanese wars keep northern and central Italy in suspense.

A time full of artistic, architectural and social revolutions that captivated our small development team.

What would it be like to live, work, decide and govern in this period? How does it feel to stroll through an Italian village at the end of the Middle Ages, watch the olive harvest in the neighboring grove or observe the work of the local glassmaker?

In a nutshell, what would it be like to capture this time in order to be able to shape and change it creatively?



Our thoughts lead us first and foremost to the basics:

We will use Unreal Engine 5, as we are excited about its graphical potential and tools such as Lumen, auto-LOD-ing or localization. We will create the NPC models in Character Creator 4, Wwise is the tool of choice for sound generation and we have been using Blender for modeling for years.

Even though the possibility of coding using blueprints in UE sounds tempting, we are already aware of the scope and complexity of the project, which is why we will be doing most of the coding in C++.


Now we just have to get started...
